Liverpool City Council have kicked off plans to regenerate the area around the world famous Anfield football stadium. Liverpool Express reports that residents, businesses and road users are being invited to give feedback on the £5m plans that aim to make the area more integrated, community centred and eco-friendly.
The latest improvements are a continuation of years of investment and regeneration that is transforming the face of Liverpool with new office space, homes, and leisure and recreation facilities.
The Anfield scheme, known as the Anfield Spatial Regeneration Framework, is intended to provide a better quality of matchday experience, as well as improve the day to day environment for pedestrians, motorists, residents and local business owners.
Councillor Dan Barrington, Cabinet Member for Transport and Connectivity, said: “This £5 million investment in Walton Breck Road is about more than just infrastructure – it’s about creating a safer, greener, and more welcoming environment for everyone who lives, works, and visits Anfield.”
He added: “These improvements will help knit together the community, support local businesses, and ensure the area continues to thrive as part of our long-term regeneration plans.”
The wider Anfield community has already benefited from £250m of upgrades, including over 600 new homes. The legendary stadium itself has also been upgraded to improve visitor experience. The latest proposals have been based on previous research into the improvements local people want to see.
The key features include modernised streetlighting, traffic calming measures, reconfigured pedestrian crossings; upgraded footways; tree planting and softscaping; carriageway resurfacing and better layouts for both drivers and pedestrians.
These improvements all contribute to Liverpool’s growing reputation as the leading city in the north west of England to live, visit and do business.
