A new BBC TV drama has generated £9m for Liverpool city region, according to a report in Liverpool Business Daily. The drama, This City Is Ours, stars Sean Bean, Julie Graham, and Michael Kavanagh, and was first broadcast on BBC One on Sunday March 23.
It’s a prime example of how Liverpool continues to thrive as a cultural leader, attracting new talent, investment and businesses from a range of sectors. Together with the ongoing investment into the regeneration of the Docklands area and the much anticipated opening of the Bramley Moore Dock Everton Stadium later this year, the city is on the up.
The production company, Left Bank Pictures, spent 17 weeks filming at multiple locations around the city. The drama was partially funded by financial backing from Liverpool City Council’s Film Office.
Head of Liverpool Film Office and fund manager, Lynn Saunders said: “This City Is Ours is a fantastic example of how the LCR Production Fund has worked to not only draw in production but bring great benefit to the local economy.”
“The project has reported a total spend for the region at just under £9m which equates to just under £20 for each £1 spent of the fund’s investment – which is an outstanding achievement.
“With a gripping script from creator and local writer Stephen Butchard and championing our homegrown talent, there’s certainly a special buzz around this project and we can’t wait to see how it plays out on the screen.”
The production also generated over 300 jobs for local people and supported 17 trainees. Furthermore, the Liverpool Film Office has provided funding for 1,564 film and TV productions in the region, which have created 5,279 full time jobs and generated an estimated £168m in extra investment.
