If you and your company are currently looking for team-building days out not far from your Liverpool rented office, what about heading off to Allerton Manor Golf Club, which has just launched FootGolf – a combination of, you’ve guessed it, football and golf.
Make your way to the nine-hole academy course in south Liverpool to enjoy a game or two, which involves using a standard size football and kicking it down the fairways and onto the greens, where you’ll find extra-large holes… with the idea being to shoot the lowest score you can.
There’s no dress code so wear what you feel most comfortable in, or what you think will most likely help you to win. But don’t forget – you can’t wear studded boots, as these will damage the golf playing surface.
We’ve already received some amazing feedback from those that have played FootGolf here at Allerton Manor, several local football teams played in the first few days and loved it,” Byran Joelson-Mulhall, director of golf, was quoted by Liverpool Business News Daily as saying.
If you’re feeling particularly competitive, check out the UK FootGolf website, where you can find all you need to know about this up-and-coming sport. Familiarising yourself with the rules before you and your office head off for a few rounds could be a good move so you’re one step ahead of the competition.
For example, when kicking the ball, you need to do this in a single movement, with your foot separate from the ball, clearly behind it, before you go to kick. And you’re only allowed to pick up the ball to clean it or replace it when on the green.
Of course, FootGolf may not be appealing, in which case you’ll be pleased to hear there are plenty of other team-building opportunities to grab in and around Liverpool.
You could, for example, go for something a little bit more high octane and do The Hunt Live, inspired by TV show Hunted where intelligence experts chase ‘fugitives’ across England using the extensive surveillance that extends around the country.
In this version, you and your colleagues will be taught real-life detective skills before being sent to hit the streets to capture a fugitive.
Or what about The Mersey Games, where you can participate in It’s a Knockout-style games that pit you and your team against each other in all sorts of hilarious ways. There are nine games in all, from taking each other on in the Scouse Duel, horsing about in the Grand National or seeing how far you can chuck a pair of boots in the Welly Wangin’ contest.
Whatever you decide, you’ll find that there are lots of options in Liverpool – it’s simply a matter of choosing your favourite one!
