Further High-Quality Plans For Liverpool’s Knowledge Quarter

Liverpool’s Knowledge Quarter (KQ Liverpool) is rapidly reshaping the city centre into a world‑class hub for science, technology, health, and education. Spanning roughly 450 acres, it brings together institutions such as the University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University, Liverpool Science Park, and Paddington Village.

KQ Liverpool has been supported by over £1 billion in development already underway and an additional £1 billion in the pipeline. The Business Desk reports on the latest development, within Paddington Village South, which will take place following the demolition of the former Smithdown Lane Police Station.

The mixed-use plans include a revamped green space and new facilities for the city’s thriving research, innovation and development sector. Central to the masterplan is a 9‑acre park around Grove Street, with the goal of improving biodiversity by 10% as part of the city’s broader urban greening agenda.

Colin Sinclair, CEO at Knowledge Quarter Liverpool, said: “Paddington Village is intrinsic to the future success of the KQ Liverpool innovation district, with the capability to help create upwards of 10,000 new, highly skilled jobs in the city region, building on our existing strengths in life sciences, robotics engineering and materials chemistry.”

The development will boost the wider economy of Liverpool, increasing the demand for office space that benefits from proximity to a globally connected innovation hub. Aligned with the ongoing multi-billion pound regeneration of the northern dockland areas, the city is evolving into the north west’s leading destination for forward thinking businesses.

The regeneration work is focused on providing a high-quality environment for residents, visitors and businesses alike, with excellent connective infrastructure to the rest of the city through a network of roads, cycle paths and pedestrian routes. This is appealing to modern companies who value sustainability and employee wellbeing.
