Green Light For £56m Liverpool Docklands Housing Project

Central Docks, an emerging new neighbourhood in the heart of Liverpool’s regenerated dockland area, is to receive a £56m investment from Homes England. The development will see the creation of about 2,350 new homes, a public park, upgraded infrastructure and public amenities.

The 10.5 hectare scheme will pave the way for future investments, including new office space, retail and leisure facilities. The proposed new park will be the centrepiece of the development, with a 2.1 hectare ‘urban oasis’ modelled on New York’s Central Park. The Central Docks regeneration scheme is projected to attract £550m of new investment.

Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, said: “Britain is under new management and now we’re really starting to see the difference. Working hand in hand with government at a national, regional and local level we can make an enormous difference and drive growth locally.”

“The development of Central Docks, alongside the ongoing work to regenerate Bramley Moore and Bootle, has the potential to be a catalyst for growth and wider regeneration for great swathes of South Sefton and North Liverpool, creating jobs and attracting investment.”

The regeneration of Liverpool’s docklands is a long term project, with billions of pounds of investment already bearing fruit. The 52,888 seater Everton Stadium is due to open next year, and will be a substantial boost to the local economy, with extra visitors and new businesses opening to support them.

The regeneration scheme is also focused on improving the infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists, to create open access between the docklands and the city centre.
