Liverpool Lime Street To Close For 23 Days

If you use the public transport network to reach your Liverpool serviced offices, you might need to find an alternative way to get to work from September 30th.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Lime Street train station will be closed for 23 days so that Network Rail can replace tracks, upgrade signalling and remodel the platforms. And it seems that there might be more misery for commuters in the near future, if Merseyrail staff do go on a planned strike during the closure of the station.

The Rail and Maritime Transport Workers Union (RMT) has said it won’t be ruling out further strike action to take place at the same time of the closure – which will see more people relying heavily on Merseyrail services.

Regional organiser with the RMT John Tilley was quoted by the news source as saying: “We are considering our next round of action and our door is always open for negotiations. We believe that Merseyrail and Merseytravel have lost the propaganda war, the vast majority of the public are opposed to the removal of guards from Merseyrail trains.”

If you’re worried about getting to work in October, what about seeing if there’s anyone in your office you could car share with. Driving can be stressful but if you take it in turns you might be able to weather the transport storm more effectively.

Or you could take this as a golden opportunity to get more exercise and start cycling to work. Talk to your employer about the Cyclescheme initiative where you can save cash on a new bike and help spread the cost.
