Office Workers Unimaginative With Lunches

If you normally grab lunch at your desk while trying to keep on top of your emails, chances are that you just whip up the quickest and easiest solution before you head into work.

It seems that many of us are unimaginative with our lunch choices, with HR Grapevine reporting on a survey conducted by New Covent Garden Soup that found more than three-quarters of office workers have had the same lunch for the past nine months.

The main reason behind the lack of variety was ease, but cost effectiveness, habit and wanting to stick to the healthiest option were other excuses given for not mixing things up.

According to the research, the most popular lunch among those in the country’s offices was a ham sandwich, followed by a cheese sandwich and a chicken sandwich. Other popular lunches included pasta, a jacket potato and topping, and microwave ready meals.

Psychologist Dr Becky Spelman told the website that sticking to the same lunch for months at a time isn’t great for our health, but that changing things up can have other benefits too.

“Making small changes, such as trying something new for our lunch meal, can – in a small way – help open our mind to new experiences in other areas of life too,” she said.

Last year, the newspaper recommended spots such as Ameriesko at Hatten Garden, and Lunya for those looking for something new to tantalise their tastebuds, without a hefty price tag.
