Having autonomy in the workplace can significantly boost people’s overall wellbeing and give them higher job satisfaction.
This is the finding of research by the University of Birmingham, Business School, which revealed that those who have more control over the pace of their work and their schedule are happier and feel more satisfied in their roles.
It’s little surprise then that managers report the greatest levels of autonomy in the workplace, with 90 per cent stating they have some or a lot of control over their schedule and tasks.
For many others, a lack of autonomy over things like working hours also has an impact on their overall wellbeing.
Dr Daniel Wheatley, of the university’s Business School, commented: “The positive effects associated with informal flexibility and working at home offer further support to the suggestion that that schedule control is highly valued and important to employees ‘enjoying’ work.”
However, the research also found that many managers are unwilling to give their employees greater autonomy in the workplace, despite the positive impact this might have.
Of course, there are other ways to improve productivity in your Liverpool serviced offices, such as by looking at their design. Ensuring the office remains clean and well ventilated is key, according to office design experts who recently spoke to the Independent.
In addition, choosing an office near green space is a good idea, as having this nearby can have a calming effect on workers. You might also want to look at what other companies are renting space in the same building, as having ‘inspiring’ neighbours has also been shown to improve employee performance.
