Liverpool has enjoyed an extraordinary journey of successful regeneration over the last few decades, and it is now a city that buzzes with economic opportunities and cultural enterprise. The most recent accolade to this vibrant north west city comes from Time Out, who have named the Baltic Triangle as the coolest neighbourhood in the UK for 2023.
The Baltic Triangle is an independent creative and digital ‘cultural quarter’ of the city that has been described as the answer to New York’s Meat Packing District. It contains a mixture of impressive heritage architecture and new development, just a short distance from the Albert Docks.
The Liverpool-based contributor to Time Out, Alice Porter said: ‘Fifteen years ago, what is now known as the Baltic Triangle was nothing more than a collection of largely abandoned shipping warehouses. But thanks to a huge regeneration project, they’re now populated by some of the best restauranteurs, artists and creatives in the city.’
She added: ‘Only a short walk from Liverpool’s iconic Albert Dock, the Baltic – as it’s often affectionately termed – is where you’ll experience the city’s younger side, as lots of 20-and-30-somethings call this corner of Liverpool home.’
The area is packed with cool places to hang out and eat and drink, where you are likely to mingle with some of the city’s most interesting people, including artists, musicians, designers, photographers, and entrepreneurs.
Time Out also placed the Baltic Triangle eleventh out of 40 on the list of the world’s coolest neighbourhoods, based on the opinions of 12,000 people around the world. Laureles in Medellin, Colombia, topped the list and Smithfied in Dublin came second. The next UK neighbourhood to make the list was Leith, Edinburgh, at number 16.
