Liverpool social enterprise, The Women’s Organisation, has recently hosted the Love Your Business Festival, which was a week-long programme of events that aimed to provide support to small businesses and startups across the Liverpool city region.
LBN Daily reports that the festival culminates with a speed-networking event on Friday 12 November, where attendees will have the opportunity to create new connections along with a glass of ‘Friday Fizz’. The event has been sponsored by local law firm Morecrofts, which will have experts on hand to help with any legal concerns facing business owners.
The festival will coincide with Global Entrepreneurship Week 2021, which is now in its ninth year. Events will cover key considerations for new and fledgling start-up businesses, including business planning, social media strategy, finance and bookkeeping, and sustainability.
Maggie O’Carroll, the chief executive of The Women’s Organisation, said that the festival was well placed to address the lack of commitment to small business support, funding, or skills in the October Budget.
She explained: “Startups and small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy and are absolutely critical to our recovery post-pandemic. They provide jobs and attract investment into individual regions.”
She said that to be able to help the economy recover and thrive, it first needs funding and support, adding: “It’s what we call speculate to accumulate. Discounting business rates is an old-hat way of addressing economic development.”
The Women’s Organisation has supported more than 60,000 women and helped to create more than 4,000 businesses since it was established in 1996, and is the largest developer and deliverer of training and support for women in the UK.
Maggie added: “Furlough and people being forced out of work incited a culture of entrepreneurialism, which should absolutely be celebrated and sustained.”
