New Addition For Liverpool’s Innovation District

Plans have been put forward for a major new development in Liverpool’s Innovation District, also known as the Knowledge Quarter. The Liverpool Echo reports that Sciontec have lodged plans for a multi storey new build on the site of the former Archbishop Blanch Girls School in Paddington Village.

The new building will be used for research and development work, and will also include space for a fitness centre and co working spaces. Sciontec are also in the process of acquiring Sensor City, which is currently owned by Liverpool John Moores University and the University of Liverpool.

The company plans to invest £2m in the facility, to establish it as a global innovation centre for digital technology. Professor Keith George, who is Chair of Sensor City Liverpool Limited and Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Exchange at Liverpool John Moores University, who have shares in Sciontec, commented on the proposals.

He said: “We are looking forward to finalising the details with Sciontec for the new investment in the building, which will enable us to drive forward research and business growth in the technology sector.”

Colin Sinclair, CEO of KQ Liverpool and Sciontec, said: “This landmark deal with our University partners will mark an exciting transformation in the life of Sensor City.”

He added: “We are really looking forward to operating Sensor City alongside the successful Liverpool Science Park and further helping to create high value jobs and grow the City Region economy, through science and technology, health and wellbeing.”

The plans have already been approved by local planning officers, and they will now be submitted to the city council for approval. Sciontec already own Liverpool Science Park, which is the site of lab space and coworking space for STEM businesses.
