Next Steps Revealed For Major Liverpool Regeneration Project

The Paddington Village scheme in Liverpool’s Knowledge Quarter (KQ) is a £1 billion regeneration project in the city and one that the city council is expected to take the next steps with this week, Liverpool Express revealed.

A report has set out what’s required for the project to get underway in earnest, with councillors meeting on 15 September to examine the proposals and give the go-ahead to a multi-million pound series of works across seven sites.

This will involve constructing a new car park, Liverpool office space, a hotel and a district heating system. The latter will be a combined heat and power (CHP) plant that can deliver sustainable heating and power to all the buildings in the area.

Approval has already been granted for the Royal College of Physicians’ new northern base, as well as for the Rutherford Cancer Centre North West and Liverpool International College’s new learning centre.

These projects all require the infrastructure work to be carried out on the CHP system before building can get underway in earnest.

Chief executive of KQ Liverpool Colin Sinclair told the news provider that the focus on science and education, as well as health and wellbeing, is helping attract a great deal of interest in the scheme.

“Paddington Village is a key component of building a world-class innovation district in KQ Liverpool, creating jobs and improving people’s lives,” he asserted.

The city is undergoing a period of transformation at present, with a number of regeneration schemes on the cards. The city council has identified five key economic areas in Liverpool to focus its efforts on, one of which is KQ, while the others are Stonebridge Cross, South Liverpool, Central Liverpool and North Liverpool.
