Deciding what to have for lunch can be very tricky, unless you’re one of these incredibly organised people who meal preps on a Sunday night for the entire week ahead. Sometimes, this just isn’t practical and you’re sure to want to go out for lunch at some point in the near future – so here are a few of our favourite picks of where to go in Liverpool for lunch.
This independent café and cheese shop is a hidden gem on the corner of Castle Street and Derby Square, and if you’ve not been there for a bite to eat yet you really need to do so as a matter of urgency. Toasties, sandwiches, speciality cheeses, meat platters and more are available to eat in or takeaway – and there are even little hampers you can buy, which would make perfect Christmas presents (or is it too early to start thinking about the festive season?).
Need a carb fix in a hurry? Pasta Cosa is your guy. The company specialises in Italian fast food (sounds perfect already), from classics like carbonara to toasted ciabattas, breakfast in a box, cured meats, caprese, arancini… need we go on? Even better, the company is on Deliveroo so if you fancy a delicious lunch but don’t have the time to go anywhere, simply get it delivered to your desk!
This amazing Catalan deli, bar and restaurant can be found in Liverpool One in an incredible converted 18th century warehouse – so this would be a good choice if you’re planning on heading out for lunch. What’s on the menu? The likes of meat, fish and vegetable tapas, albondigas, Catalan black pudding, grilled prawns, deli platters, baby sardines… the list goes on and on. If you’re feeling especially hungry you could opt for a baby suckling pig imported from Segovia and served with roast potatoes, vegetables and gravy – but this will set you back a cool £199!
With spring just around the corner, now’s the time to start planning where to eat when it’s warm and sunny outside. Salt House Bacaro is the perfect choice, since there’s outdoor seating and a great menu, inspired by the working men’s pubs of Venice. Food isn’t expensive (three small dishes will set you back around £12.50 per person) and there’s a lot of choice on the menu.
This venue has an incredible – and still relatively unknown – rooftop garden that would be perfect in spring and summer when the weather’s fine. Just don’t tell everyone about it! Menu options include creamy wild mushroom tagliatelle, slow braised steak sandwiches, Moroccan style lamb burgers, lemon and garlic chicken breast and lots, lots more. They also do breakfast and brunch, so you’ll never go hungry if they have anything to do with it!
