Liverpool2 Officially Opens!

Liverpool2, one of the most modern shipping terminals in the world, has officially opened today (November 4th) at the Port of Liverpool following a £400 million investment by Peel Ports.

Both importers and exporters in the UK look set to benefit from this new ocean gateway, which has road, rail and canal connections that will link straight to the heart of the mainland. The terminal itself was developed as a response to changing trading patterns and trends in the shipping industry moving towards utilising ocean-bound container ships.

“Liverpool2 will create a new trading gateway in the UK. We are already exploring and succeeding in creating new opportunities for UK exporters, having recently signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding to create a strategic alliance aimed at facilitating international trade and generating new business by promoting trade routes between Liverpool and the west coast of South America via the Panama Canal,” CEO of Peel Ports Mark Whitworth said.

This agreement was signed on October 24th, with Mr Whitworth saying that both Liverpool and Panama have made major investments in the last couple of years to accommodate global container ships and help shift international trade patterns, opening up new markets for trade.

Liam Fox, secretary of state for international trade, made further comments, saying that the investment in the city will help to create local jobs, boost cargo capacity and show that the UK is open for business on a global scale.
