Pitch Preparation Work Begins At Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium

The construction of the new Everton stadium has reached another milestone as the preparation work for the new pitch gets underway. The state of the art turf at Bramley-Moore Dock will feature undersoil heating, irrigation piping, and drainage. The Liverpool Echo reports that the new pitch will be built up in layers.

The seeding process is expected to be completed by early October, and synthetic fibres will then be stitched into the roots of the grass. These artificial fibres will be able to interlock with the natural grass to reinforce it against wear and tear and adverse weather conditions, adding to about five percent of the total volume of the grass.

Ben Williams, package manager for Laing O’Rourke, who is overseeing the pitch development, explained: “At the minute, we are just concentrating on the initial stages of those ducting and utility installations.”

He added: “SEL Environmental will then return around July to install the root layers, all of the drainage and irrigation and build up the layers, and we’re hoping to start planting grass seed around August time.”

Meanwhile, Everton in the Community have begun a new initiative with long-standing partner Christopher Ward to fund its Pass on the Memories programme. This is designed to support older people living with dementia and their carers, through a series of interactive and multigenerational projects.

The programme will organise a series of events and activities to bring together older people to share precious memories, and also to provide respite for carers and give them the opportunity to meet other people in similar circumstances.
