Stress Affects Almost 75 Per Cent Of British Adults

Whatever kind of business you run from your Liverpool office space, you’ll want to make sure that everyone you employ is healthy and happy.

However, it seems that the vast majority of Brits are struggling with their mental health, after a survey commissioned by Mental Health Foundation found that nearly three-quarters of British adults have felt overwhelmed by stress and unable to cope in the last year.

The Evening Standard revealed that the research also found that 35 per cent of people had experienced suicidal thoughts or feelings as a result of stress, while 16 per cent had self-harmed because of the stress they were under.

Lee Knifton, head of Mental Health Foundation in Scotland, told the news provider that stress still isn’t “being taken as seriously as physical health conditions”, despite the adverse effects on our physical and mental health as a result.

In a recent article for Training Zone, founder of My Time George Kiley offered businesses some advice on how they can help their employees reduce their stress levels.

One of the most important things to do is break the stigma around talking about mental health issues, he explained. This means being supportive and “creating a culture where employees feel secure to talk more openly about what can be a taboo subject”, he said.

Mr Kiley also pointed out that stress is one of the biggest barriers to productivity in the workplace, and that tackling it can have benefits well beyond the person whose stress you alleviate. Mindfulness is one of the most effective tools to use to do this, he added.
