Wirral Loop Line Open Once Again

It’s the news you’ve all been waiting for if you rent offices in Liverpool – the Wirral loop line has finally reopened after six months of work, with the new track expected to last for up to 60 years.

The original track in the underground loop was built back in the 70s and was in much need of updating. While this work was ongoing, Network Rail also took the opportunity to replace the track between James Street and Hamilton Square at the same time in a bid to minimise disruption.

The work – part of £340 million being invested in the Liverpool City Region’s railway networks – will also help support the rollout of the new Merseyrail fleet in 2020.

Managing director of Mersey rail Jan Chaudhry van-der Velde said: “We know that journey times for Wirral line passengers were longer over the last six months, but research tells us that customers were aware of the work and understood that it needed to be done. We thank not just Merseyrail passengers, but everyone in the city region affected by the work, for their patience and understanding throughout.”

Transport is key for anyone working in and around a big city, so the more improvements that are made the better. If you travel between Liverpool and Manchester a lot for work, you could soon be doing it in serious style if plans for a hover train come to fruition.

A hover train is now being considered by Direct City Networks that runs underground and could see you make the journey between the two cities in just seven minutes!
